RUSSEL FRANCIS WETTLIN Obituary (1932

North Highlands, CA...Russel Francis Wettlin, 87, died at home on Saturday, Feb 22, 2020. He was born on September 10, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY and he was the son of the late Russell M. and Mary Byrnes Wettlin. He was a 1950 Graduate of Washingtonville Central High School in Washingtonville, NY. In 1953 Russel married Jacqueline M. Quinlin. She predeceased him in death on September 13, 2013 just one month before their 60th wedding Anniversary. Russel was also predeceased in death by his siblings Evelyn Wettlin, Dorothy Wettlin, George Wettlin and Mary Gruttemeyer. He served 20 years in the United States Air Force in the 1155th Technical Operations Squadron and retired as a MSgt in 1974. During his time in the USAF he was known as the "Silver Fox" along with being awarded an Air Medal and an Air Force Commendation Medal. In 1976 he graduated from Sacramento State University, Sacramento with a Business Degree. He then started his second career working for the Federal Government as a Contract Negotiator at the Alameda Naval Air Station, McClellan AFB and Dept of Reclamation. He retired from Civil Service in 1993 & spent the last 27 years enjoying life with his loving family. Russel is survived by three Children, Joan (Jerry) Munckton of Sparks, NV, Russel L (Sandra) Wettlin of Rocklin, CA & Patricia (Randy) Hill of Roseville, CA, 7 grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Ryan, Kelly, Angelica, Brandon & Zachary, and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Joseph (Anne) Wettlin of South Carolina and many nieces & nephews. Services with full Military Honors will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA but at a later date due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
